Purpose, born as Mykal Hudson, is a 19-year-old lyrical prophet who has a desire to change Hip-Hop as we know it today. Purpose is well known in the Denver Metro community & will be the one to put Colorado on the map as a Hip-Hop hot spot. He draws his inspiration from mainstream artists such as Jay-Z & Kanye West. However, it is the underground artist, Brother Ali, that truly gives him the passion to change today's Hip-Hop style.
At age 15, Mykal was a prominent member of a local Hip-Hop group entitled "Truth." As the leader of Truth, he wrote the majority of the lyrics & produced the beats for the songs performed. With Truth, Mykal preformed many live shows, as well as recorded an HD-TV music video for Comcast Cablevision. After leaving the group, Mykal took a brief hiatus to re-evaluate his purpose in life. He finished high school & enrolled at the University Of Colorado in Boulder to major in Architectural Engineering. While at school, Mykal realized that he still had a burning passion to sing and perform. He auditioned for "In The Buff," the second oldest and most prestigious accapella group at CU, Boulder. Mykal was one of two young men selected to join this group, & he has spent the past year practicing & performing.
However, this was not enough. Mykal became irritated & disgusted with all of Hip-Hop's negativity & profanity; thus felt a desire to do more. He began to write, & Purpose was born. He wrote "Sell Your Soul," a powerful, racy track that goes against mainstreams Hip-Hop norm. Purpose began performing at local shows in Boulder, CO and receiving street credibility as an emcee. With his mind set on making a difference in Hip-Hop, he began recording tracks for a demo at "Studio in the Heights" in Houston, TX. His hard hitting jams include "Fit to Rock," "Lift It Up," and "Point Blank Flow." In these records, Purpose delivers powerful punchlines, mixed with complex rhyme schemes. However, it is his fourth track on the demo "Shattered Dreams" that Purpose truly reveals his heart. In this gripping, poetic elegy, Purpose describes his love for music, as well as his plight to succeed in such a cut-throat industry. With todays hackneyed concepts & recycled hits, the music industry is patiently waiting for a change. The purpose of Purpose is to manifest this change.
